a conversation with my friend chris that i wrote down

Sunday, September 21st, 2008

i wrote this and other conversations down thinking they’d make good comics

but i think actually they don’t work that great as comics because its basically just talking

i know some people are good at that, at turning something without much visual change into a good comic, but its not something that i can bring myself to do right now. anyways, here’s the conversation fragment:

C: Maybe I should get some [referring to something I don't remember anymore--probably the antacid medication I was prescribed that worked wonders].

M: Do you have sudden pains in your chest [too]?

C: No, but I think that I do.

M: You should take imaginary pills.

Patty Griffin - “Blue Sky”

Wednesday, November 19th, 2008

I saw this on Conan in 1999 when it first aired. It’s as awesome now as it was then. I listened to the album recently that the song is from, Flaming Red, and its really good too. Mari told me that Patty Griffin wrote The Dixie Chick’s hit, “Fly”, and I think it’s apparent from some of the songs on Flaming Red that The Dixie Chicks are heavily influenced by her.

A blog post while I avoid finishing my late strip - some neat stories.

Pissed. My entry got erased. Time to say it again. Mangs. Okay, first this strip is cool. It’s by Jamie Dee Galey, the first artist for Filth Hole, which at its start was hilarious. Now defunct, but check it out nonetheless. NSFW btw.

The strip reminds me of my friend Chris who is always being confronted when he walks down the street, for no apparent reason. I think it is because Chris is of a liminal size to these dudes he passes, and they don’t know if they should fight or flight. I think it’s because he’s small-ish but compact.

Next. I think this story, by Jamie’s son I believe?, is so sweet. It’s almost like a recursive story that never ends (”A boy woke up and decided to write down his dream. It went like this: ‘A boy woke up and decided to write down his dream. It went like this: ”A boy woke up and decided to write down his dream…””).
